Thinking about suicide?

Many people at some point in their lives feel suicidal, some try suicide, and a small number succeed. It can be frightening to have suicidal thoughts, but it doesn't mean you are going to do anything.

If you have suicidal thoughts there are lots of people you could speak to:

People in your family
Your friends
Your doctor
The Samaritans 0845 790 9090
Breathing Space 0800 838587
Childline 0800 1111
Papyrus (prevention of young suicide)

0870 1704000

You can have suicidal thoughts when:

Something very upsetting has happened to you, like having problems at home or at work, not getting the job or exam grades you wanted, somebody close to you dying, when you are stressed or being bullied, or a relationship has ended. Suicidal thoughts can also happen when you have been using drugs or drinking.

Suicidal thoughts can happen to anyone. You can feel worthless, think nobody cares about you, and that this is never going to change. It might be difficult for your family to understand that you are hurting, because you may feel and be acting very angry and aggressively, or quiet and keep to yourself all the time.
